Rahu Kaal overlap: daytime cards also flag the one Choghadiya interval that overlaps Rahu Kaal. The overlap note is informational; it does not change the Choghadiya name or its calculated boundary.

How Choghadiya Is Calculated

For the selected city and date, local daylight from sunrise to sunset is divided into eight equal intervals. The night from sunset to the following sunrise is also divided into eight equal intervals. A fixed weekday sequence assigns the Choghadiya name to each interval. The tool keeps precise timestamps internally and rounds displayed boundaries to the nearest minute.

Why City and Date Matter

Choghadiya is not a fixed clock chart. Sunrise, sunset and night length change with location and season. The same weekday can therefore produce different clock times in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata or another supported city even though all results here are displayed in IST.

Traditional Use and Limits

Choghadiya labels are part of traditional Hindu calendar practice. This site presents the calculated periods as a calendar reference tool. The labels do not predict outcomes, replace personal judgment, or establish that a time is suitable for every ceremony, contract, purchase or other decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Choghadiya?

Choghadiya is a traditional Panchang time-division system. This tool separates the selected city’s daylight and night into eight equal periods and assigns the weekday sequence for each period.

Is Choghadiya fixed at 90 minutes?

No. The length changes with actual daylight and night. Day periods depend on local sunrise and sunset; night periods run from sunset to the next sunrise.

Which Choghadiya are traditionally considered favorable?

Amrit, Shubh and Labh are commonly treated as favorable. Char is commonly treated as usable or neutral. Rog, Kaal and Udveg are commonly treated as periods to avoid for auspicious starts. These are traditional calendar labels, not guarantees of outcomes.

Why do Choghadiya times differ by city?

Different city coordinates produce different sunrise and sunset times. Even cities using the same IST clock can therefore have different Choghadiya boundaries.

What happens after midnight?

Night Choghadiya continues from the selected date’s sunset to the following sunrise. Some night periods therefore appear after midnight with the next civil date.

Why can another Panchang differ by a minute?

Published Panchangs can use slightly different coordinates, solar-event conventions or rounding. This site uses one consistent city-centre coordinate set and rounds displayed boundaries to the nearest minute.
